Stressed?

Reflexology can help you de-stress, relax, feel calm, revitalise your energy levels and improve your circulation.

Stress of every-day life can have a detrimental effect on your body's natural ability to keep you healthy.  Our bodies are designed to be well, however, stress can make a person more susceptible to dis-ease and various disorders, and can build up gradually with life 'issues'.

Reflexology reduces stress and induces deep relaxation.  For your health sake, treat yourself to some relaxing time out.  Feel refreshed, calm, balanced and revitalised.  We live with stress every day, which can make life exhilarating and fun.  Stress becomes a problem when we have excess work pressures, problems, frustrations and worry.  It is estimated that approximately 70% of illness and headaches are stress related.

Stress is the internal response we make to an outside stimulus, changes or difficulties, whether real or imagined, and can come from work, social situations, or our perceived helplessness.  Our state of health affects our whole life and is influenced by our work, activities, relationships and our emotions.

The classic fight/flight reaction is not under our direct control.  When this reaction switches on, it releases adrenaline and cortisol, quickening the heart rate, blood pressure rises, digestion processes slow, muscles tense and the stomach tightens.  Short term, this response can help us with a challenging situation.  Long term, when we are constantly on high alert, our body can suffer from extreme exhaustion.  De-stressing becomes essential for our body's health and well-being.

Reflexology is a non-invasive, specific technique, using gentle pressure (non ticklish) of thumb and fingers to the feet, which activates the body's self-help mechanisms.  Hands and ears may also be utilised.  I prefer the feet, as they have the best effect on the body, having over 7,000 nerve endings connected to all parts of the body.  The feet mirror the body with all its organs and systems.  Stimulating points on the feet can improve the health of corresponding parts of the body.  This can relieve the body of built-up stresses, relaxing you, therefore enabling your body to function in a balanced way through your mind and emotions.

Using this gentle, caring touch to encourage your body towards good health, your body can respond with its amazing capacity to heal itself and can re-establish the balance of the body's energy.  This relaxing effect is as important as physical comfort.

The antidote to this stress response is relaxation, and reflexology is the key to a relaxed body.  A completely relaxed body cannot experience a negative emotion.  The thoughts may still be there, but the feeling component is not.

Reflexology instills confidence, and the feeling within that you can cope with stressful situations.  You can do something to relieve the tensions of modern life.

Reflexology has been used as a healing modality for thousands of years in Asian cultures.  Archaeologists have even found evidence of its use by pharaohs in Egypt.

This deeply relaxing technique is a time-tested way to revitalise energy, improve circulation and encourage your body to cleanse itself of toxins and impurities, while it balances your body systems.

As a preventative measure, it can relax and re-energise the body and mind, and can be a powerful antidote to the effects of stress.
